Staying Positive During Covid-19

Life seems to be on hold. Every single day is just like the day before it: I wake up—unaware of what day of the week it is–I go to school at home, I eat at home, I sleep… repeat. In other words, I’m staying at home. Well, technically, the world is staying at home.

Who would’ve thought that we could explore the comforts of our own homes even more? Nowadays, the simple thought of taking a walk outside seems like a luxury. People are growing restless, but for me, I really don’t mind this experience all that much.

At home, though I am distanced, I am not disconnected. All of the virtual tools that are available are being used to my advantage. You can catch me Facetiming a friend, Skyping a family member, or even Zooming with my classmates.

Personally, I find that being at home has given me the opportunity to really work on myself. I’ve started to learn a new language and even started to work out every single day—something that I’d never thought I’d come around to. I realized that I could be working on my mental health instead of staring at my phone or laptop screen all day, and I encourage you all to do so, too.

Of all the perks of not being able to leave my house, I am most grateful for the time that I can now spend with my whole family. My brother is back from college and my dad is no longer going on business trips—everyone is at home, together.

Throughout this global pandemic, I tried not to let the ubiquitous negativity get to me. It started with the racist remarks, the jokes made of a serious situation, then, it became just seeing the exponential growth in the number of cases and deaths. 2020 has not been off to the best start, I’m sure everyone can agree with that.

It is vital for people to stay positive in this time, to see the glass half full. Not only has climate change taken a turn for the better, global movements have truly connected us all.

On April 18th, the World Health Organization partnered with various singers from around the world to participate in the One World: Together at Home Special to Celebrate COVID-19 Workers, a day long live stream aiming to raise funds for global COVID-19 response efforts.

While at home, I recommend using the time to check off some of those New Year’s resolutions! This is also a great time to relax, forget about all the stress of school or work, and enjoy time spent with your families, safe and healthy.

This experience truly makes us grateful for even the smallest things in life, things like a hug or a morning coffee from the cafe around the corner. It makes us grateful for all the selfless people we have in our society, those who are staying at work for us and asking us to stay at home for them. It even makes us grateful for the things that we might normally not look forward to, like school, work, and driving on the highway.

So, I say look on the happier side of things! We are all adjusting to this new life amidst this global pandemic. I wish everyone good health and safety. Stay positive and stay at home!
