Four Tips for Personal Growth
Personal growth is a process of both understanding yourself and pushing yourself to reach your highest potential. I learned a lot about personal growth through connections like family, friends, and the internet. Though I am no expert on this subject, I consider myself to be well rounded on this topic, so I would like to give several tips to those of you who are seeking advice on developing yourself.
Maintaining good health is the most important thing when it comes to personal growth. By doing this in a proper manner, you are able to attain skills such as responsibility, time management, and organization. For instance, to maintain good health, I think about several components such as food intake/diet, physical activities, and a good amount of sleep.
To organize my thoughts, I usually write in my journal about how I am going to divide and prioritize all those things. This taught me how to manage my time and stay organized.
Another significant thing for personal growth is to maintain good hygiene. For example, imagine not brushing your teeth or bathing in the morning before going to school. You will feel sticky and disgusting all day because brushing your teeth and bathing makes you feel refreshed before heading out for a long day. If you are able to maintain doing these basic things related to hygiene, you will feel confident and recharged. I also recommend that you do things regarding self-care. For instance, I regularly apply moisturizer to make sure my skin is hydrated, wear lip balm to moisturize my lips, and drink water to stay hydrated. These small efforts that I put into maintaining my skin makes me feel more positive about myself.
Reading personal development books has given me a better insight on many things such as mental wellness, time management, and goal setting. These books not only give life-changing tips but also provide you with knowledge that may otherwise take years to gain. For starters, I recommend that you read Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. This book was assigned to the class by our teacher who thought that the habits mentioned in the book would be useful throughout high school. This book provides readers with simple tips that could help them improve their self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve their goals, appreciate their parents and tackle new challenges.
Trying out new hobbies can be really beneficial if you are seeking to improve yourself. For example, a couple of years ago, I went to a basketball camp for the first time. It had been my first time playing this sport and I was extremely nervous. At first, everything about basketball seemed abnormal and difficult. I also felt out of place as many people were so much better than I was. But soon, with regular practice and the help of my team members, basketball became the sport that I enjoy the most. When trying out new things, you gain new skills, new relationships, and discover a part of yourself that you never knew existed.
These are the things I did when I was seeking to become a better individual. When trying out some of these tips, focus on improving one thing at a time. There are a number of components that make up these tips so don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to do everything. Take it slow and strive for improvement, not perfection.
